Context of Mark 3:8
6The Pharisees left, and with Herod’s followers they immediately plotted to kill Jesus. 7Jesus left with his disciples for the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd from Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and from across the Jordan River, and from around Tyre and Sidon followed him. They came to him because they had heard about everything he was doing. 9Jesus told his disciples to have a boat ready so that the crowd would not crush him. 10He had cured so many that everyone with a disease rushed up to him in order to touch him.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8Tyre - Sidon, etc. - See Matthew 11:21. When they had heard what great things he did, came unto him - So, if Christ be persecuted and abandoned by the wicked, there are a multitude of pious souls who earnestly seek and follow him. He who labors for God will always find more than he loses, in the midst of all his contradictions and persecutions.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-12Verses 6-12 All our sicknesses and calamities spring from the anger of God against our sins. Their removal, or the making them blessings to us, was purchased to us by the blood of Christ. But the plagues and diseases of our souls, of our hearts, are chiefly to be dreaded; and He can heal them also by a word. May more and more press to Christ to be healed of these plagues, and to be delivered from the enemies of their souls.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 7-12Jesus went to the lake (the Sea of Galilee), which prepares for the events in 4:1–5:43. The large crowd that came to see John the Baptist (1:7) was smaller than the crowd that came to see Jesus. Idumea was a region in southern Judea, settled by the Edomites after the exile in Babylon. Tyre and Sidon were Phoenician cities on the Mediterranean coast that Jesus later visited (7:24, 31).Read the comment
