Context of Mark 3:8
6The Pharisees left the meeting place immediately. They went to meet with some other people who were friends with the ruler, Herod. The Pharisees talked with them about how they could kill Jesus. 7Jesus left that place and he went away to Lake Galilee with his disciples. A large crowd of people from Galilee followed them. Many people also came to him from Judea, from Jerusalem and from a region of Israel called Idumea. They also came from places on the other side of the Jordan River, and from the towns called Tyre and Sidon. Many people had heard about the things that Jesus was doing. That is why all these people came to him. 9The crowd was very large. So Jesus asked his disciples to prepare a small boat for him. They did this so that the people would not push against him. 10Sick people were pushing to the front, because they were trying to touch him. They knew that he had made many people well.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8Tyre - Sidon, etc. - See Matthew 11:21. When they had heard what great things he did, came unto him - So, if Christ be persecuted and abandoned by the wicked, there are a multitude of pious souls who earnestly seek and follow him. He who labors for God will always find more than he loses, in the midst of all his contradictions and persecutions.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-12Verses 6-12 All our sicknesses and calamities spring from the anger of God against our sins. Their removal, or the making them blessings to us, was purchased to us by the blood of Christ. But the plagues and diseases of our souls, of our hearts, are chiefly to be dreaded; and He can heal them also by a word. May more and more press to Christ to be healed of these plagues, and to be delivered from the enemies of their souls.Read the comment

The large crowd that came to see John the Baptist (1:7) was smaller than the crowd that came to see Jesus. Idumea was a region in southern Judea, settled by the Edomites after the exile in Babylon. Tyre and Sidon were Phoenician cities on the Mediterranean coast that Jesus later visited (7:24, 31).Read the comment
