Context of Romans 6:2
1Someone might say, ‘Perhaps we should continue to do wrong things. Then God can be kind to us in more and more ways.’ No! Certainly we should not do that! Sin does not rule our lives any longer. That old life is dead! So it is not right that we should continue to do wrong things. 3Remember what your baptism shows: When they baptized you, it shows that you are united with Christ Jesus. It also shows that, because Christ died, your old life also died. 4Your baptism shows that they buried you, just like they buried Christ after his death. It is like you died with him and they buried you with him. Because of that, God will also raise us, just as he raised Christ from death. God, the Father, is so great and powerful that he raised Christ to a new life. That means that we also can live our lives in a new way.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2God forbid - , Let it not be; by no means; far from it; let not such a thing be mentioned! - Any of these is the meaning of the Greek phrase, which is a strong expression of surprise and disapprobation: and is not properly rendered by our God forbid! for, though this may express the same thing, yet it is not proper to make the sacred Name So familiar on such occasions. How shall we, that are dead to sin - The phraseology of this verse is common among…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2God forbid - By no means. Greek, It may not be; Note, Romans 3:4. The expression is a strong denial of what is implied in the objection in Romans 6:1. How shall we? - This contains a reason of the implied statement of the apostle, that we should not continue in sin. The reason is drawn from the fact that we are dead in fact to sin. It is impossible for these who are dead to act as if they were alive. It is just as absurd to suppose that a Christian…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2we who died to sin: Paul explains in 6:3–10 our new relationship to sin is possible because we are closely connected to the death of Jesus. Just as dying means entrance into an entirely new state of being, our relationship with sin is now different because of Christ’s death. To be dead to sin does not mean that believers no longer feel temptation or desire to sin. Believers are still involved in a struggle against sin (6:12–14). However, Christians no…Read the comment

How shall we, that are dead, &c.--literally, and more forcibly, "We who died to sin (as presently to be explained), how shall we live any longer therein?"Read the comment
