Context of Luke 24:5
3They went inside the hole in the rock, but they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus there. 4They did not understand this at all. But while they were thinking about it, two men appeared. Their clothes shone brightly like lightning. These men came and stood beside them. So the women became very afraid and they went down low with their faces on the ground. The men said to the women, ‘This is a place to bury dead people. You should not be looking here for someone who is alive. 6Jesus is not here. He has become alive again! Remember what he said to you, while he was still with you in Galilee. 7He said, “It is necessary that someone should give the Son of Man into the power of bad men. They will kill him on a cross. But three days later he will become alive again.” ’

Commentaries on Luke 24:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Why seek ye the living among the dead? - This was a common form of speech among the Jews, and seems to be applied to those who were foolishly, impertinently, or absurdly employed. As places of burial were unclean, it was not reasonable to suppose that the living should frequent them; or that if any was missing he was likely to be found in such places.Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-7Jesus had told his followers many times that he would rise from the dead (see 9:22, 44; 17:25; 18:31–34). The resurrection of Jesus is a key belief of the Christian faith (see 1 Corinthians 15:3–7, 12–57).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-12(See on Mr 16:1-8; and Mt 28:1-5). 5. Why, &c.--Astonishing question! not "the risen," but "the Living One" (compare Re 1:18); and the surprise expressed in it implies an incongruity in His being there at all, as if, though He might submit to it, "it was impossible He should be holden of it" (Ac 2:24).Read the comment
