Context of Luke 24:5
3And when they had entered they found not the body of the Lord Jesus. 4And it came to pass as they were in perplexity about it, that behold, two men suddenly stood by them in shining raiment. And as they were filled with fear and bowed their faces to the ground, they said to them, Why seek ye the living one among the dead? 6He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spoke to you, being yet in Galilee, 7saying, The Son of man must be delivered up into the hands of sinners, and be crucified, and rise the third day.

Commentaries on Luke 24:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Why seek ye the living among the dead? - This was a common form of speech among the Jews, and seems to be applied to those who were foolishly, impertinently, or absurdly employed. As places of burial were unclean, it was not reasonable to suppose that the living should frequent them; or that if any was missing he was likely to be found in such places.Read the comment

Why, &c.--Astonishing question! not "the risen," but "the Living One" (compare Re 1:18); and the surprise expressed in it implies an incongruity in His being there at all, as if, though He might submit to it, "it was impossible He should be holden of it" (Ac 2:24).Read the comment
