Context of Luke 13:35
33Anyway, I need to continue my journey for some more days. If they want to kill a prophet from God, it has to happen in Jerusalem. 34Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Your people have killed God's prophets. And they have thrown stones to kill other people that God has sent to you. Many times, I have wanted to bring all of your people near to me. A female bird covers her babies with her body to make them safe. But you would not let me keep you from danger like that. So listen! Your place will now become like a wilderness where nobody lives. I tell you this. You will not see me again until the day when you say, “May the Lord God bless the man who comes with his authority!” ’

Commentaries on Luke 13:35
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 35Your house - ̔ , the temple - called here your house, not my house - I acknowledge it no longer; I have abandoned it, and will dwell in it no more for ever. So he said, 2 Chronicles 36:17, when he delivered the temple into the hands of the Chaldeans - the house of Your sanctuary. A similar form of speech is found, Exodus 32:7, where the Lord said to Moses, Thy people, etc., to intimate that he acknowledged them no longer for his followers. See the notes…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 31-35Verses 31-35 Christ, in calling Herod a fox, gave him his true character.
