Hebrews 4:2
2We have heard God's good news, just like God's people in the wilderness heard his message. But that message did not help them, because they did not believe it. They did not trust God, like those who obeyed him.

Context of Hebrews 4:2
1God promised his people that they could go to his special place of rest. That promise is still true for us today. So we must be very careful. Do not fail to arrive in that place. We certainly do not want that to happen. We have heard God's good news, just like God's people in the wilderness heard his message. But that message did not help them, because they did not believe it. They did not trust God, like those who obeyed him. 3But those of us who trust God do enjoy his special place of rest. This is what God said: ‘Because I was very angry with them, I promised this: “They will never arrive in my special place of rest.” ’ God said that, even though he had finished his work when he made the world. 4In the Bible God has spoken about the seventh day like this: ‘God rested from all his work on the seventh day.’

It will also help him in his future life with God in heaven.’

- 1 Thessalonians 2:13There is another reason why we always continue to thank God for you. When we told God's message to you, you knew that it was not human ideas. Commentaries on Hebrews 4:2
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2For unto us was the Gospel preached - · For we also have received good tidings as well as they. They had a gracious promise of entering into an earthly rest; we have a gracious promise of entering into a heavenly rest. God gave them every requisite advantage; he has done the same to us. Moses and the elders spoke the word of God plainly and forcibly to them: Christ and his apostles have done the same to us. They might have persevered; so may we: they…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2For unto us was the gospel preached as well as unto them - This translation by no means conveys the sense of the original. According to this it would seem that the “gospel,” as we understand it, or the whole plan of salvation, was communicated to “them,” as well as to “us.” But this is by no means the idea. The discussion has reference only to “the promise of rest,” and the assertion of the apostle is that this “good news” of a promise of rest is made to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2This good news is the message of salvation (Hebrews 2:3–4). They lacked the faith of those who listened to God.
