Context of 2 Peter 1:5
3His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4By these he has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, 6knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, 7godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5And beside this - ̀ ̓̀ ͂ Kai auto toutoSomething here is necessary to be understood in order to complete the sense. The reference is to 2 Peter 1:3; and the connection is, since 2 Peter 1:3 God has given us these exalted privileges and hopes, “in respect to this,” ( ̀ kataor ̀ diabeing understood,) or as a “consequence” fairly flowing from this, we ought to give all diligence that we may make good use of these advantages, and secure as high attainments as…Read the comment

But he does show that love is the highest and most important virtue in the list (1:7).Read the comment
