1 Then there arose a great גְּדוֹלָ֑ה ge.do.Lah H1419 cry צַעֲקַ֥ת tza.'a.Kat H6818 of the people הָעָ֛ם ha.'Am H5971 and of their wives H802 against their brethren the Jews הַיְּהוּדִֽים׃ hai.ye.hu.Dim H3064 . 2 For there were that said אֹמְרִ֔ים 'o.me.Rim H559 , We , our sons בָּנֵ֥ינוּ ba.Nei.nu H1121 and our daughters וּבְנֹתֵ֖ינוּ u.ve.no.Tei.nu H1323 , are many רַבִּ֑ים ra.Bim H7227 : let us get grain דָגָ֖ן da.Gan H1715 , that we may eat וְנֹאכְלָ֥ה ve.no.khe.Lah H398 and live וְנִחְיֶֽה׃ ve.nich.Yeh H2421 . 3 Some also there were that said אֹמְרִ֔ים 'o.me.Rim H559 , We are mortgaging our fields שְׂדֹתֵ֛ינוּ se.do.Tei.nu H7704 , and our vineyards וּכְרָמֵ֥ינוּ u.khe.ra.Mei.nu H3754 , and our houses H1004 : let us get grain דָגָ֖ן da.Gan H1715 , because of the dearth. 4 There were also that said אֹמְרִ֔ים 'o.me.Rim H559 , We have borrowed money כֶ֖סֶף Khe.sef H3701 for the king’s הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ ha.Me.lekh H4428 tribute upon our fields שְׂדֹתֵ֖ינוּ se.do.Tei.nu H7704 and our vineyards וּכְרָמֵֽינוּ׃ u.khe.ra.Mei.nu H3754 . 5 Yet now וְעַתָּ֗ה ve.'a.Tah H6258 our flesh כִּבְשַׂ֤ר kiv.Sar H1320 is as the flesh בְּשָׂרֵ֔נוּ be.sa.Re.nu H1320 of our brethren , our children as their children : and , lo , we bring into bondage our sons H1121 and our daughters בְּנֹתֵ֜ינוּ be.no.Tei.nu H1323 to be servants H5650 , and some of our daughters מִבְּנֹתֵ֤ינוּ mi.be.no.Tei.nu H1323 are brought into bondage already : neither is it in our power to help it ; for other לַאֲחֵרִֽים׃ la.'a.che.Rim H312 men have our fields וּשְׂדֹתֵ֥ינוּ u.se.do.Tei.nu H7704 and our vineyards וּכְרָמֵ֖ינוּ u.khe.ra.Mei.nu H3754 . 7 Then I consulted with myself , and contended וָאָרִ֙יבָה֙ va.'a.Ri.vah H7378 with the nobles and the rulers , and said H559 unto them , Ye exact usury מַשָּׁ֥א ma.Sha' H4855 , every one H376 of his brother בְּאָחִ֖יו be.'a.Chiv H251 . And I held a great גְדוֹלָֽה׃ ge.do.Lah H1419 assembly קְהִלָּ֥ה ke.hi.Lah H6952 against them . 8 And I said H559 unto them , We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews הַיְּהוּדִ֜ים hai.ye.hu.Dim H3064 , that were sold H4376 unto the nations לַגּוֹיִם֙ la.go.Yim H1471 ; and would ye even sell H4376 your brethren , and should they be sold H4376 unto us ?
