Context of Hebrews 2:13
11Both Jesus who sanctifies and those who are sanctified [that is, spiritually transformed, made holy, and set apart for God’s purpose] are all from one Father; for this reason He is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, 12saying, “I will declare Your (the Father’s) name to My brethren (believers), In the midst of the congregation I will sing Your praise.” And again [He says], “My trust and confident hope will be placed in Him.” And again, “Here I am, I and the children whom God has given Me.” 14Therefore, since [these His] children share in flesh and blood [the physical nature of mankind], He Himself in a similar manner also shared in the same [physical nature, but without sin], so that through [experiencing] death He might make powerless (ineffective, impotent) him who had the power of death—that is, the devil— 15and [that He] might free all those who through [the haunting] fear of death were held in slavery throughout their lives.

Commentaries on Hebrews 2:13
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13I will put my trust in him - It is not clear to what express place of Scripture the apostle refers: words to this effect frequently occur; but the place most probably is Psalm 18:2, several parts of which psalm seem to belong to the Messiah. Behold I and the children which God hath given me - This is taken from Isaiah 8:18. The apostle does not intend to say that the portions which he has quoted have any particular reference, taken by themselves, to the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13And again - That is, it is said in another place, or language is used of the Messiah in another place, indicating the confidence which he put in God, and showing that he partook of the feelings of the children of God, and regarded himself as one of them. I will put my trust in him - I will confide in God; implying: (1) asense of dependence on God; and, (2) confidence in him. It is with reference to the former idea that the apostle seems to use it here…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-13Verses 10-13 Whatever the proud, carnal, and unbelieving may imagine or object, the spiritual mind will see peculiar glory in the cross of Christ, and be satisfied that it became Him, who in all things displays his own perfections in bringing many sons to glory, to make the Author of their salvation perfect through sufferings. His way to the crown was by the cross, and so must that of his people be. Christ sanctifies; he has purchased and sent the…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13This verse quotes Isaiah 8:17–18, which is part of a larger context about the Messiah (compare Isaiah 8:14 with Romans 9:33; 1 Peter 2:8). "I will put my trust in Him.": This shows that Jesus trusts God the Father. "I, and the children God has given Me.": This shows the close relationship between Jesus and God's children.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1313. I will put my trust in him--from the Septuagint, Is 8:17, which immediately precedes the next quotation, "Behold, I and the children," &c. The only objection is the following words, "and again," usually introduce a new quotation, whereas these two are parts of one and the same passage. However, this objection is not valid, as the two clauses express distinct ideas; "I will put my trust in Him" expresses His filial confidence in God as His Father, to…Read the comment
