Context of Hebrews 2:13
11Jesus, who makes people holy, and all those who are made holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus isn’t ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. 12He says, “I will tell my people about your name. I will praise you within the congregation.” In addition, Jesus says, “I will trust him.” And Jesus says, “I am here with the sons and daughters God has given me.” 14Since all of these sons and daughters have flesh and blood, Jesus took on flesh and blood to be like them. He did this so that by dying he would destroy the one who had power over death (that is, the devil). 15In this way he would free those who were slaves all their lives because they were afraid of dying.

Commentaries on Hebrews 2:13
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13I will put my trust in him - It is not clear to what express place of Scripture the apostle refers: words to this effect frequently occur; but the place most probably is Psalm 18:2, several parts of which psalm seem to belong to the Messiah. Behold I and the children which God hath given me - This is taken from Isaiah 8:18. The apostle does not intend to say that the portions which he has quoted have any particular reference, taken by themselves, to the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13And again - That is, it is said in another place, or language is used of the Messiah in another place, indicating the confidence which he put in God, and showing that he partook of the feelings of the children of God, and regarded himself as one of them. I will put my trust in him - I will confide in God; implying: (1) asense of dependence on God; and, (2) confidence in him. It is with reference to the former idea that the apostle seems to use it here…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-13Verses 10-13 Whatever the proud, carnal, and unbelieving may imagine or object, the spiritual mind will see peculiar glory in the cross of Christ, and be satisfied that it became Him, who in all things displays his own perfections in bringing many sons to glory, to make the Author of their salvation perfect through sufferings. His way to the crown was by the cross, and so must that of his people be. Christ sanctifies; he has purchased and sent the…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13This verse quotes Isaiah 8:17–18, which is part of a larger context about the Messiah (compare Isaiah 8:14 with Romans 9:33; 1 Peter 2:8). "I will put my trust in Him.": This shows that Jesus trusts God the Father. "I, and the children God has given Me.": This shows the close relationship between Jesus and God's children.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1313. I will put my trust in him--from the Septuagint, Is 8:17, which immediately precedes the next quotation, "Behold, I and the children," &c. The only objection is the following words, "and again," usually introduce a new quotation, whereas these two are parts of one and the same passage. However, this objection is not valid, as the two clauses express distinct ideas; "I will put my trust in Him" expresses His filial confidence in God as His Father, to…Read the comment
