Context of Hebrews 2:14
12saying, “I will proclaim Your name to My brothers and sisters. In the midst of the congregation I will sing praise to You.” 13And again, “I will put My trust in Him.” And again, “Here am I and the children God has given Me.” Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared the same humanity—so that through death He might break the power of the one who had the power of death (that is, the devil) 15and free those who by fear of death were in bondage all their lives. 16For surely He is not concerned about angels, but about the seed of Abraham.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14The children are partakers of flesh and blood - Since those children of God, who have fallen and are to be redeemed, are human beings; in order to be qualified to redeem them by suffering and dying in their stead, He himself likewise took part of the same - he became incarnate; and thus he who was God with God, became man with men. By the children here we are to understand, not only the disciples and all genuine Christians, as in Hebrews 2:13, but also…Read the comment

Here is a price paid, enough for all, and suitable to all, for it was in our nature. Here the wonderful love of God appeared, that, when Christ knew what he must suffer in our nature, and how he must die in it…Read the comment

Philo, a first-century Jewish philosopher, wrote that "nothing enslaves the mind like fearing death" (Philo, That Every Good Person Is Free 3.22). Through his sacrificial death, Christ freed those who were slaves to the fear of dying.Read the comment
