Context of Mark 8:33
31Then Jesus began to tell them that the Son of Man must suffer many terrible things and be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but three days later he would rise from the dead. 32As he talked about this openly with his disciples, Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. Jesus turned around and looked at his disciples, then reprimanded Peter. “Get away from me, Satan!” he said. “You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” 34Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 35If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 27-33Verses 27-33 These things are written, that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. These miracles of our Lord assure us that he was not conquered, but a Conqueror. Now the disciples are convinced that Jesus is the Christ; they may bear to hear of his sufferings, of which Christ here begins to give them notice. He sees that amiss in what we say and do, of which we ourselves are not aware, and knows what manner of spirit we are of, when we…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 33Jesus looked at his disciples before he corrected Peter in public. He wanted them to understand Peter's mistake. Get behind Me, Satan!: Jesus does not mean that a demon possessed Peter. Peter spoke from a human perspective, not God's. So without knowing it, he spoke for Satan, "the god of this age" (2 Corinthians 4:4). He repeated Satan's temptation (compare Matthew 4:8–10).Read the comment
