Context of Luke 7:28
26But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 27This is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.’ For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” 29And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John. 30But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 19-35Verses 19-35 To his miracles in the kingdom of nature, Christ adds this in the kingdom of grace, To the poor the gospel is preached. It clearly pointed out the spiritual nature of Christ's kingdom, that the messenger he sent before him to prepare his way, did it by preaching repentance and reformation of heart and life. We have here the just blame of those who were not wrought upon by the ministry of John Baptist or of Jesus Christ himself. They made a…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28Jesus praised John as the greatest person who ever lived under the old covenant. But even the least person in the kingdom of God is greater than John. The blessings of the new covenant are free and complete forgiveness of sins, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, and intimate knowledge of God. These blessings give believers in Jesus a new and greater position than even John enjoyed.Read the comment
