Context of Luke 7:28
26What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 27This is the one about whom it is written: See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way before you. I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater than John, but the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” 29(And when all the people, including the tax collectors, heard this, they acknowledged God’s way of righteousness, because they had been baptized with John’s baptism. 30But since the Pharisees and experts in the law had not been baptized by him, they rejected the plan of God for themselves.)

Justified God - Considered God as “just” or “right” in the counsel which he gave by John - to wit, in calling people to repentance, and in denouncing future wrath on the impenitent. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 19-35Verses 19-35 To his miracles in the kingdom of nature, Christ adds this in the kingdom of grace, To the poor the gospel is preached. It clearly pointed out the spiritual nature of Christ's kingdom, that the messenger he sent before him to prepare his way, did it by preaching repentance and reformation of heart and life. We have here the just blame of those who were not wrought upon by the ministry of John Baptist or of Jesus Christ himself. They made a…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28Jesus praised John as the greatest person who ever lived under the old covenant. But even the least person in the kingdom of God is greater than John. The blessings of the new covenant are free and complete forgiveness of sins, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, and intimate knowledge of God. These blessings give believers in Jesus a new and greater position than even John enjoyed.Read the comment
