Context of Mark 1:4
2as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way”— 3“a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ ” And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.

It was John's business to proclaim the Gospel of the grace of God, and to point out that Lamb or sacrifice of God which takes away the sin of the…Read the comment

He instructed them to confess their sins, seek God's forgiveness, and be baptized. Those who did this were ready to receive the message of Jesus (see Luke 7:29–30). John was in the wilderness, likely the desert area around the Jordan River north of the Dead Sea. This shows he was the "voice" Isaiah mentioned (Mark 1:3). preaching a baptism: The…Read the comment
