Context of 2 Corinthians 8:19
17because he not only accepted our request, but since he was very eager, he is coming to you of his own accord. 18And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his work in spreading the gospel. In addition, this brother has also been chosen by the churches as our traveling companion as we administer this generous gift to the glory of the Lord himself and to show our readiness to help. 20We did this as a precaution so that no one should blame us in regard to this generous gift we are administering. 21For we are concerned about what is right not only before the Lord but also before men.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 19Chosen of the Churches to travel with us - · Appointed by a show of hands; from the hand, and , to extend. This appointment, by the suffrage of the Churches, seems to refer more to St. Luke than any one else; unless we suppose he refers to the transaction, Acts 15:40, Acts 15:41, and then it would appear that Silas is the person intended. With this grace - Liberal contribution. See on 2 Corinthians 8:1; (note). Your ready mind - Your willingness to…Read the comment

It is the duty of all Christians to act prudently; to hinder, as far as we can, all unjust suspicions. It is needful, in the first place, to act uprightly in the sight of God, but things honest in the sight of men should also be attended to. A clear character, as well as a pure conscience, is requisite…Read the comment
