Philippians 1:12-30
12Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances 1have turned out for the greater progress of the 2gospel, 13so that my 34imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole 5praetorian guard and to 6everyone else, 14and that most of the 7brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my 89imprisonment, have 10far more courage to speak the word of God without fear. 1511Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even 12from envy and strife, but some also 13from good will; 16the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the 14gospel; 17the former proclaim Christ 15out of selfish ambition 16rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my 1718imprisonment. 18What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will rejoice, 19for I know that this will turn out for my 19deliverance 20through your 21prayers and the provision of 22the Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20according to my 23earnest expectation and 24hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with 25all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be 26exalted in my body, 27whether by life or by death. 21For to me, 28to live is Christ and to die is gain. 2229But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean 30fruitful labor for me; and I do not know 31which to choose. 23But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the 32desire to depart and 33be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 2534Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy 35in the faith, 26so that your 36proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.
27Only conduct yourselves in a manner 37worthy of the 38gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are 39standing firm in 40one spirit, with one 41mind 42striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28in no way alarmed by your opponents--which is a 43sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. 29For to you 44it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to 45suffer for His sake, 30experiencing the same 46conflict which 47you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
