Lamentations 2:13-19

13How shall I admonish you? To what 1shall I compare you, O daughter of Jerusalem? To what shall I liken you as I comfort you, O 2virgin daughter of Zion? For your 3ruin is as vast as the sea; Who can 4heal you?14Your 5prophets have seen for you False and foolish visions; And they have not 6exposed your iniquity So as to restore you from captivity, But they have 7seen for you false and misleading 8oracles.15All who pass along the way 9Clap their hands in derision at you; They 10hiss and shake their heads At the daughter of Jerusalem, “Is this the city of which they said, ‘11The perfection of beauty, 12A joy to all the earth’?”16All 13your enemies Have opened their mouths wide against you; They hiss and 14gnash their teeth. They say, “We have 15swallowed her up! Surely this is the 16day for which we waited; We have reached it, we have seen it.”17The Lord has 17done what He purposed; He has accomplished His word Which He commanded from days of old. He has thrown down 18without sparing, And He has caused the enemy to 19rejoice over you; He has 20exalted the 21might of your adversaries.18Their 22heart cried out to the Lord, “O 23wall of the daughter of Zion, Let your 24tears run down like a river day and night; Give yourself no relief, Let 25your eyes have no rest.19Arise, cry aloud in the 26night At the beginning of the night watches; 27Pour out your heart like water Before the presence of the Lord; Lift up your hands to Him For the 28life of your little ones Who are 29faint because of hunger At the head of every street.”
