1Now it came to pass, when Adoni–zedekH139kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֗םye.ru.sha.LimH3389had heardכִשְׁמֹ֨עַkhish.Mo.a'H8085howH3588Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091had takenלָכַ֨דla.KhadH3920Aiהָעַי֮ha.'AiH5857,and had utterly destroyedוַיַּחֲרִימָהּ֒vai.ya.cha.ri.MahH2763it; as he had doneעָשָׂ֤ה'a.SahH6213to Jerichoלִֽירִיחוֹ֙li.ri.ChoH3405and her kingוּלְמַלְכָּ֔הּu.le.mal.KahH4428,so he had doneעָשָׂ֥ה'a.SahH6213to Aiלָעַ֖יla.'AiH5857and her kingוּלְמַלְכָּ֑הּu.le.mal.KahH4428;and how the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֤יyo.she.VeiH3427of Gibeonגִבְעוֹן֙giv.'OnH1391had made peaceהִשְׁלִ֜ימוּhish.Li.muH7999with Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and were amongבְּקִרְבָּֽם׃be.kir.BamH7130them;

2That they fearedוַיִּֽירְא֣וּvai.yi.re.'UH3372greatlyמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966,because Gibeonגִּבְע֔וֹןgiv.'onH1391wasa greatגְּדוֹלָה֙ge.do.LahH1419cityעִ֤יר'irH5892,as oneכְּאַחַ֖תke.'a.ChatH259of the royalהַמַּמְלָכָ֑הha.mam.la.KhahH4467citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892, and because it wasgreaterגְדוֹלָה֙ge.do.LahH1419than Aiהָעַ֔יha.'AiH5857,and all the menאֲנָשֶׁ֖יהָ'a.na.Shei.haH582thereof weremightyגִּבֹּרִֽים׃gi.bo.RimH1368.

4Come upעֲלֽוּ־'a.lu-H5927unto me, and helpוְעִזְרֻ֔נִיve.'iz.Ru.niH5826me, that we may smiteוְנַכֶּ֖הve.na.KehH5221Gibeonגִּבְע֑וֹןgiv.'onH1391:for it hath made peaceהִשְׁלִ֥ימָהhish.Li.mahH7999with Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091and with the childrenבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

5Therefore the fiveחֲמֵ֣שֶׁת׀cha.Me.shetH2568kingsמַלְכֵ֣יmal.KheiH4428of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֗יha.'e.mo.RiH567,the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֜םye.ru.sha.LimH3389,the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Hebronחֶבְר֤וֹןchev.RonH2275,the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Jarmuthיַרְמוּת֙yar.MutH3412,the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Lachishלָכִ֣ישׁla.KhishH3923,the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Eglonעֶגְל֔וֹןeg.LonH5700,gathered themselves togetherוַיֵּאָסְפ֨וּvai.ye.'a.se.FuH622,and went upוַֽיַּעֲל֜וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927,they and all their hostsמַֽחֲנֵיהֶ֑םma.cha.nei.HemH4264,and encampedוַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙vai.ya.cha.NuH2583before Gibeonגִּבְע֔וֹןgiv.'onH1391,and made warוַיִּֽלָּחֲמ֖וּvai.yi.la.cha.MuH3898against it.

6And the menאַנְשֵׁי֩'an.SheiH582of Gibeonגִבְע֨וֹןgiv.'onH1391sentוַיִּשְׁלְח֣וּvai.yish.le.ChuH7971unto Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091to the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙ha.ma.cha.NehH4264to Gilgalהַגִּלְגָּ֣לָהha.gil.Ga.lahH1537,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559,Slackתֶּ֥רֶףTe.refH7503not thy handיָדֶ֖יךָya.Dei.khaH3027from thy servantsמֵֽעֲבָדֶ֑יךָme.'a.va.Dei.khaH5650;come upעֲלֵ֧ה'a.LehH5927to us quicklyמְהֵרָ֗הme.he.RahH4120,and saveוְהוֹשִׁ֤יעָהve.ho.Shi.'ahH3467us, and helpוְעָזְרֵ֔נוּve.'a.ze.Re.nuH5826us: for all the kingsמַלְכֵ֥יmal.KheiH4428of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֖יha.'e.mo.RiH567that dwellיֹשְׁבֵ֥יyo.she.VeiH3427in the mountainsהָהָֽר׃ha.HarH2022are gathered togetherנִקְבְּצ֣וּnik.be.TzuH6908against us.

7So Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091ascendedוַיַּ֨עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927from Gilgalהַגִּלְגָּ֗לha.gil.GalH1537,he, and all the peopleעַ֤ם'amH5971of warהַמִּלְחָמָה֙ha.mil.cha.MahH4421with him, and all the mightyגִּבּוֹרֵ֥יgi.bo.ReiH1368men of valourהֶחָֽיִל׃ פhe.Cha.yilH2428.

8And the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,Fearתִּירָ֣אti.Ra'H3372them not: for I have deliveredנְתַתִּ֑יםne.ta.TimH5414them into thine handבְיָדְךָ֖ve.ya.de.KhaH3027;there shall not a manאִ֛ישׁ'ishH376of them standיַעֲמֹ֥דya.'a.ModH5975beforeבְּפָנֶֽיךָ׃be.fa.Nei.khaH6440thee.

9Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091therefore cameוַיָּבֹ֧אvai.ya.Vo'H935unto them suddenlyפִּתְאֹ֑םpit.'OmH6597, andwent upעָלָ֖ה'a.LahH5927from Gilgalהַגִּלְגָּֽל׃ha.gil.GalH1537all nightהַלַּ֕יְלָהha.Lay.lahH3915.

10And the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068discomfitedוַיְהֻמֵּ֤םvay.hu.MemH2000them beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and slewוַיַּכֵּ֥םvai.ya.KemH5221them with a greatגְדוֹלָ֖הge.do.LahH1419slaughterמַכָּֽה־ma.kah-H4347at Gibeonבְּגִבְע֑וֹןbe.giv.'onH1391,and chasedוַֽיִּרְדְּפֵ֗םvai.yir.de.FemH7291them along the wayדֶּ֚רֶךְDe.rekhH1870that goeth upמַעֲלֵ֣הma.'a.LehH4608to Beth–horonH1032,and smoteוַיַּכֵּ֥םvai.ya.KemH5221them to Azekahעֲזֵקָ֖ה'a.ze.KahH5825,and unto Makkedahמַקֵּדָֽה׃ma.ke.DahH4719.

11And it came to pass, as they fledבְּנֻסָ֣ם׀be.nu.SamH5127from beforeמִפְּנֵ֣יmi.pe.NeiH6440Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478, andwere in the going downבְּמוֹרַ֤דbe.mo.RadH4174to Beth–horonH1032,that the Lordוַֽיהוָ֡הva.Yah.wehH3068cast downהִשְׁלִ֣יךְhish.LikhH7993greatגְּדֹל֧וֹתge.do.LotH1419stonesאֲבָנִ֨ים'a.va.NimH68from heavenהַשָּׁמַ֛יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064upon them unto Azekahעֲזֵקָ֖ה'a.ze.KahH5825,and they diedוַיָּמֻ֑תוּvai.ya.Mu.tuH4191: they weremoreרַבִּ֗יםra.BimH7227which diedמֵ֙תוּ֙me.tuH4191with hailstonesבְּאַבְנֵ֣י הַבָּרָ֔דbe.'av.Nei ha.ba.RadH68 H1259than theywhomH834the childrenבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478slewהָרְג֛וּha.re.GuH2026with the swordבֶּחָֽרֶב׃ סbe.Cha.revH2719.

12Then spakeיְדַבֵּ֤רye.da.BerH1696Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַ֙ye.ho.shu.a'H3091to the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068in the dayבְּי֗וֹםbe.YomH3117when the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068delivered upתֵּ֤תtetH5414the Amoritesהָ֣אֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567beforeלִפְנֵ֖יlif.NeiH6440the childrenבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀vai.Yo.merH559in the sightלְעֵינֵ֣יle.'ei.NeiH5869of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478,Sunשֶׁ֚מֶשׁShe.meshH8121,stand thou stillדּ֔וֹםDomH1826upon Gibeonבְּגִבְע֣וֹןbe.giv.'onH1391;and thou, Moonוְיָרֵ֖חַve.ya.Re.achH3394,in the valleyבְּעֵ֥מֶקbe.'E.mekH6010of Ajalonאַיָּלֽוֹן׃'ai.ya.LonH357.

13And the sunהַשֶּׁ֜מֶשׁha.She.meshH8121stood stillוַיִּדֹּ֨םvai.yi.DomH1826,and the moonוְיָרֵ֣חַve.ya.Re.achH3394stayedעָמָ֗ד'a.MadH5975,until the peopleגּוֹי֙goyH1471had avengedיִקֹּ֥םyi.KomH5358themselves upon their enemiesאֹֽיְבָ֔יו'o.ye.VavH341. Isnot thisהִ֥יאhi'H1931writtenכְתוּבָ֖הkhe.tu.VahH3789in the bookסֵ֣פֶרSe.ferH5612of Jasherהַיָּשָׁ֑רhai.ya.SharH3477?So the sunהַשֶּׁ֙מֶשׁ֙ha.She.meshH8121stood stillוַיַּעֲמֹ֤דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975in the midstבַּחֲצִ֣יba.cha.TziH2677of heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,and hastedאָ֥ץ'atzH213not to go downלָב֖וֹאla.Vo'H935about a wholeתָּמִֽים׃ta.MimH8549dayכְּי֥וֹםke.YomH3117.

14And there was no dayכַּיּ֤וֹםkai.YomH3117like that beforeלְפָנָ֣יוle.fa.NavH6440it or afterוְאַחֲרָ֔יוve.'a.cha.RavH310it, that the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068hearkenedלִשְׁמֹ֥עַlish.Mo.a'H8085unto the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of a manאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376:for the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068foughtנִלְחָ֖םnil.ChamH3898for Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ פle.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

15And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091returnedוַיָּ֤שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725,and all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֣לYis.ra.'ElH3478with him, unto the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖הha.ma.cha.NehH4264to Gilgalהַגִּלְגָּֽלָה׃ha.gil.Ga.lahH1537.

16But these fiveחֲמֵ֖שֶׁתcha.Me.shetH2568kingsהַמְּלָכִ֣יםha.me.la.KhimH4428fledוַיָּנֻ֕סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127,and hidוַיֵּחָבְא֥וּvai.ye.cha.ve.'UH2244themselves in a caveבַמְּעָרָ֖הva.me.'a.RahH4631at Makkedahבְּמַקֵּדָֽה׃be.ma.ke.DahH4719.

17And it was toldוַיֻּגַּ֖דvai.yu.GadH5046Joshuaלִיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַli.ho.Shu.a'H3091,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559,The fiveחֲמֵ֣שֶׁתcha.Me.shetH2568kingsהַמְּלָכִ֔יםha.me.la.KhimH4428are foundנִמְצְאוּ֙nim.tze.'UH4672hidנֶחְבְּאִ֥יםnech.be.'ImH2244in a caveבַּמְּעָרָ֖הba.me.'a.RahH4631at Makkedahבְּמַקֵּדָֽה׃be.ma.ke.DahH4719.

18And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,Rollגֹּ֛לּוּGo.luH1556greatגְּדֹל֖וֹתge.do.LotH1419stonesאֲבָנִ֥ים'a.va.NimH68upon the mouthפִּ֣יpiH6310of the caveהַמְּעָרָ֑הha.me.'a.RahH4631,and setוְהַפְקִ֧ידוּve.haf.Ki.duH6485menאֲנָשִׁ֖ים'a.na.ShimH582by it for to keepלְשָׁמְרָֽם׃le.sha.me.RamH8104them:

19And stayתַּעֲמֹ֔דוּta.'a.Mo.duH5975ye not, butpursueרִדְפוּ֙rid.FuH7291afterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310your enemiesאֹֽיְבֵיכֶ֔ם'o.ye.vei.KhemH341,and smite the hindmostוְזִנַּבְתֶּ֖םve.zi.nav.TemH2179of them; sufferתִּתְּנ֗וּםti.te.NumH5414them not to enterלָבוֹא֙la.Vo'H935into their citiesעָ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם'a.rei.HemH5892:for the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430hath deliveredנְתָנָ֛םne.ta.NamH5414them into your handבְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃be.yed.KhemH3027.

20And it came to pass, when Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091and the childrenוּבְנֵ֣יu.ve.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478had made an endכְּכַלּ֨וֹתke.kha.LotH3615of slayingלְהַכּוֹתָ֛םle.ha.ko.TamH5221them with a veryמְאֹ֖דme.'OdH3966greatגְדוֹלָֽה־ge.do.lah-H1419slaughterמַכָּ֥הma.KahH4347,till they were consumedתֻּמָּ֑םtu.MamH8552,that the restוְהַשְּׂרִידִים֙ve.ha.se.ri.DimH8300whichremainedשָׂרְד֣וּsa.re.DuH8277of them enteredוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935into fencedהַמִּבְצָֽר׃ha.miv.TzarH4013citiesעָרֵ֥י'a.ReiH5892.

21And all the peopleהָעָ֨םha.'AmH5971returnedוַיָּשֻׁבוּ֩vai.ya.shu.VuH7725to the campהַמַּחֲנֶ֧הha.ma.cha.NehH4264to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091at Makkedahמַקֵּדָ֖הma.ke.DahH4719in peaceבְּשָׁל֑וֹםbe.sha.LomH7965:none movedחָרַ֞ץcha.RatzH2782his tongueלְשֹׁנֽוֹ׃le.sho.NoH3956against anyלְאִ֖ישׁle.'IshH376of the childrenלִבְנֵ֧יliv.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478.

22Then saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,Openפִּתְח֖וּpit.ChuH6605the mouthפִּ֣יpiH6310of the caveהַמְּעָרָ֑הha.me.'a.RahH4631,and bring outוְהוֹצִ֣יאוּve.ho.Tzi.'uH3318those fiveחֲמֵ֛שֶׁתcha.Me.shetH2568kingsהַמְּלָכִ֥יםha.me.la.KhimH4428unto me out of the caveהַמְּעָרָֽה׃ha.me.'a.RahH4631.

23And they didוַיַּ֣עֲשׂוּvai.Ya.'a.suH6213so, and brought forthוַיֹּצִ֣יאוּvai.yo.Tzi.'uH3318those fiveחֲמֵ֛שֶׁתcha.Me.shetH2568kingsהַמְּלָכִ֥יםha.me.la.KhimH4428unto him out of the caveהַמְּעָרָ֑הha.me.'a.RahH4631,the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֗םye.ru.sha.LimH3389,the kingמֶ֤לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Hebronחֶבְרוֹן֙chev.rOnH2275,the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Jarmuthיַרְמ֔וּתyar.MutH3412,the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Lachishלָכִ֖ישׁla.KhishH3923, andthe kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Eglonעֶגְלֽוֹן׃eg.LonH5700.

24And it came to pass, when they brought outכְּֽהוֹצִיאָ֞םke.ho.tzi.'AmH3318those kingsהַמְּלָכִ֣יםha.me.la.KhimH4428unto Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַ֒ye.ho.shu.a'H3091,that Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091calledוַיִּקְרָ֨אvai.yik.Ra'H7121for all the menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and saidוַ֠יֹּאמֶרVai.yo.merH559unto the captainsקְצִינֵ֞יke.tzi.NeiH7101of the menאַנְשֵׁ֤י'an.SheiH582of warהַמִּלְחָמָה֙ha.mil.cha.MahH4421which wentהֶהָלְכ֣וּאhe.ha.le.Khu'H1980with him, Come nearקִרְב֗וּkir.VuH7126,putשִׂ֚ימוּSi.muH7760your feetרַגְלֵיכֶ֔םrag.lei.KhemH7272upon the necksצַוְּארֵ֖יtza.ve.ReiH6677of these kingsהַמְּלָכִ֣יםha.me.la.KhimH4428.And they came nearוַֽיִּקְרְב֔וּvai.yik.re.VuH7126,and putוַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760their feetרַגְלֵיהֶ֖םrag.lei.HemH7272upon the necksצַוְּארֵיהֶֽם׃tza.ve.rei.HemH6677of them.

25And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto them, Fearתִּֽירְא֖וּti.re.'UH3372not, nor be dismayedתֵּחָ֑תּוּte.Cha.tuH2865,be strongחִזְק֣וּchiz.KuH2388and of good courageוְאִמְצ֔וּve.'im.TzuH553:for thus shall the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068doיַעֲשֶׂ֤הya.'a.SehH6213to all your enemiesאֹ֣יְבֵיכֶ֔ם'o.ye.vei.KhemH341against whom ye fightנִלְחָמִ֥יםnil.cha.MimH3898.

26And afterwardאַֽחֲרֵי־'a.cha.rei-H310Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091smoteוַיַּכֵּ֨םvai.ya.KemH5221them, and slewוַיְמִיתֵ֔םvay.mi.TemH4191them, and hangedוַיִּתְלֵ֕םvai.yit.LemH8518them on fiveחֲמִשָּׁ֣הcha.mi.ShahH2568treesעֵצִ֑ים'e.TzimH6086:and they were hangingתְּלוּיִ֥םte.lu.YimH8518upon the treesהָעֵצִ֖יםha.'e.TzimH6086until the eveningהָעָֽרֶב׃ha.'A.revH6153.

27And it came to pass at the timeלְעֵ֣ת׀le.'EtH6256of the going downבּ֣וֹאBo'H935of the sunהַשֶּׁ֗מֶשׁha.She.meshH8121, thatJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091commandedצִוָּ֤הtzi.VahH6680,and they took them downוַיֹּֽרִידוּם֙vai.yo.ri.DumH3381off the treesהָעֵצִ֔יםha.'e.TzimH6086,and castוַיַּ֨שְׁלִכֻ֔םvai.Yash.li.KhumH7993them into the caveהַמְּעָרָ֖הha.me.'a.RahH4631wherein they had been hidנֶחְבְּאוּ־nech.be.'u-H2244,and laidוַיָּשִׂ֜מוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760greatגְּדֹלוֹת֙ge.do.lOtH1419stonesאֲבָנִ֤ים'a.va.NimH68in the cave’sהַמְּעָרָ֔הha.me.'a.RahH4631mouthפִּ֣יpiH6310, which remainuntil this veryעֶ֖צֶם'E.tzemH6106dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.
