Context of Mark 13:26
24“Now, after the misery of those days, the sun will turn dark, the moon will not give light, 25the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the universe will be shaken. “Then people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27He will send out his angels, and from every direction under the sky, they will gather those whom God has chosen. 28“Learn from the story of the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and it sprouts leaves, you know summer is near.

Commentaries on Mark 13:26
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 24-27Verses 24-27 The disciples had confounded the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world. This mistake Christ set right, and showed that the day of Christ's coming, and the day of judgment, shall be after that tribulation. Here he foretells the final dissolution of the present frame and fabric of the world. Also, the visible appearance of the Lord Jesus coming in the clouds, and the gathering together of all the elect to him.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 24-27But in those days, after that tribulation: Many scholars think this passage uses symbolic or figurative language. They believe the signs in the sky 13:24–25), the coming of the Son of Man (13:26), and the gathering of God’s chosen people (13:27) all point to Jerusalem’s destruction in AD 70. They also believe this event showed that the Son of Man had been proved right. However, the traditional interpretation is different. It says that the earlier verses…Read the comment

That this language finds its highest interpretation in the Second Personal Coming of Christ, is most certain. But the question is, whether that be the primary sense of it as it…Read the comment
