Context of Acts 13:40
38“So, brothers, I’m telling you that through Jesus your sins can be forgiven. Sins kept you from receiving God’s approval through Moses’ Teachings. 39However, everyone who believes in Jesus receives God’s approval. “Be careful, or what the prophets said may happen to you. 41‘Look, you mockers! Be amazed and die! I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe even if it were reported to you!’ ” 42As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak on the same subject the next day of rest—a holy day.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 40Beware - lest that come upon you, etc. - If you reject these benefits, now freely offered to you in this preaching of Christ crucified, you may expect such judgment from the hand of God as your forefathers experienced, when, for their rebellion and their contempt of his benefits, their city was taken, their temple destroyed, and themselves either slain by the sword, or carried into captivity. It is evident that St. Paul refers to Habakkuk 1:5-10; and in…Read the comment
