Context of Acts 13:40
38Be it known to you therefore, men, brethren, that through this man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins: 39And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken in the prophets; 41Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall by no means believe, though a man declare it to you. 42And when the Jews had gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 40Beware - lest that come upon you, etc. - If you reject these benefits, now freely offered to you in this preaching of Christ crucified, you may expect such judgment from the hand of God as your forefathers experienced, when, for their rebellion and their contempt of his benefits, their city was taken, their temple destroyed, and themselves either slain by the sword, or carried into captivity. It is evident that St. Paul refers to Habakkuk 1:5-10; and in…Read the comment
