Context of Acts 13:40
38Be it known unto you, therefore, brethren, that through this man remission of sins is preached to you, 39and from all things from which ye could not be justified in the law of Moses, in him every one that believes is justified. See therefore that that which is spoken in the prophets do not come upon [you], 41Behold, ye despisers, and wonder and perish; for I work a work in your days, a work which ye will in no wise believe if one declare it to you. 42And as they went out they begged that these words might be spoken to them the ensuing sabbath.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 40Beware - lest that come upon you, etc. - If you reject these benefits, now freely offered to you in this preaching of Christ crucified, you may expect such judgment from the hand of God as your forefathers experienced, when, for their rebellion and their contempt of his benefits, their city was taken, their temple destroyed, and themselves either slain by the sword, or carried into captivity.
