Context of Luke 24:30
28Then they came near to the village that the disciples were going to. It seemed that Jesus would continue his journey. 29But they wanted him to stop there. They said to him, ‘Please stay in our home with us. It is getting late, and it will soon be night.’ So Jesus went into their house to stay with them. He sat down to eat with them. He took the bread and he thanked God for it. He broke it into pieces and he gave some to them. 31Their eyes became clear and they recognized him. But then he disappeared, and they could no longer see him. 32They said to each other, ‘When he talked to us, it was like a fire that was burning inside us. We felt it while we were walking along the road. We also felt it when he was explaining God's message in the Bible.’

Commentaries on Luke 24:30
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 30He took bread - This was the office of the master and father of a family, and this was our Lord's usual custom among his disciples. Those whom Christ lodges with he feeds, and feeds too with bread that himself hath blessed, and this feeding not only strengthens, but also enlightens the soul.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 30Sat at meat - Reclined at the table, or while he was at supper. He took bread and blessed it - This was the office of the master of a feast, and perhaps this first attracted particularly their attention. Though he was in “their” house, yet he acted as “master” of the feast, as he used to do with them before his death. Perhaps, also, as he “gave” them the bread, they observed the “prints” in his hands, and they knew that it was Jesus. This was not a…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-35Verses 28-35 If we would have Christ dwell with us, we must be earnest with him. Those that have experienced the pleasure and profit of communion with him, cannot but desire more of his company. He took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. This he did with his usual authority and affection, with the same manner, perhaps with the same words. He here teaches us to crave a blessing on every meal. See how Christ by his Spirit and grace makes…Read the comment
