Context of Luke 24:30
28Then they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as if He were going farther. 29But they urged Him [not to go on], saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening, and the day has just about ended.” So He went inside to stay with them. And it happened that as He reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. 31Then their eyes were [suddenly] opened [by God] and they [clearly] recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking with us on the road and opening the Scriptures to us?”

Commentaries on Luke 24:30
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 30He took bread - This was the office of the master and father of a family, and this was our Lord's usual custom among his disciples. Those whom Christ lodges with he feeds, and feeds too with bread that himself hath blessed, and this feeding not only strengthens, but also enlightens the soul.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 30Sat at meat - Reclined at the table, or while he was at supper. He took bread and blessed it - This was the office of the master of a feast, and perhaps this first attracted particularly their attention. Though he was in “their” house, yet he acted as “master” of the feast, as he used to do with them before his death. Perhaps, also, as he “gave” them the bread, they observed the “prints” in his hands, and they knew that it was Jesus. This was not a…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 28-35Verses 28-35 If we would have Christ dwell with us, we must be earnest with him. Those that have experienced the pleasure and profit of communion with him, cannot but desire more of his company. He took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. This he did with his usual authority and affection, with the same manner, perhaps with the same words. He here teaches us to crave a blessing on every meal. See how Christ by his Spirit and grace makes…Read the comment
