Context of Hebrews 2:11
9But we do see Jesus! God made him less important than the angels for a short time. And now God has made him the great and powerful king. God did this because Jesus died as a sacrifice on behalf of all people. His death showed that God is very kind. 10It was right that God should bring Jesus back to heaven as king. All things belong to God, and he causes all things to continue. God wanted many people to become his children. He wanted them to live with him in heaven. Jesus made this possible because he died with much pain as a sacrifice. Jesus is the one who makes people clean in front of God. Jesus himself and all the people that he makes clean have the same Father. So Jesus is not ashamed to call all those people his brothers and sisters. 12He says this to God: ‘I will tell my brothers and sisters that you are great. When your people meet together, I will stand with them, and I will praise you with songs.’ 13He also says this: ‘I will trust God completely.’ He says this too: ‘I stand here with the children that God has given me.’

Commentaries on Hebrews 2:11
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11For both he that sanctifieth - The word ̔ ̔ does not merely signify one who sanctifies or makes holy, hut one who makes atonement or reconciliation to God; and answers to the Hebrew כפר caphar, to expiate. See Exodus 29:33-36. He that sanctifies is he that makes atonement; and they who are sanctified are they who receive that atonement, and, being reconciled unto God, become his children by adoption, through grace. In this sense our Lord uses the word…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11For both he that sanctifieth - This refers, evidently, to the Lord Jesus. The object is to show that there was such a union between him and those for whom he died, as to make it necessary that he should partake of the same nature, or that he should be a suffering man; Hebrews 2:14. he undertook to redeem and sanctify them. He called them brethren. He identified them with himself. There was, in the great work of redemption, a oneness between him and them…Read the comment

His way to the crown was by the cross, and so must that of his people be. Christ sanctifies; he has purchased and sent the…Read the comment
