Context of Hebrews 13:12
10Jesus Christ is the sacrifice that saves us. Jewish priests do not have the authority to receive anything from his sacrifice. 11In the old agreement, the leader of the priests brings the blood from the animal sacrifices into the Most Holy Place. He does that so that God will forgive the sins of the people. But they take the bodies of those animals away from there. They burn them outside the town. In the same way, Jesus also died outside the city. He died as a sacrifice on our behalf. His blood has made his people clean from their sins. 13Jesus died like that in a place where people insulted him. So we must go out to that place too. We must be ready for people to insult us, as they insulted him. 14Here on earth, we who are believers do not have a city that will always be our home. But we are waiting for God's city that will come.

- Hebrews 10:29So think about a person who has turned against the Son of God. That person's punishment will surely be much worse! He says that Christ's sacrifice has no value for him. God's Holy Spirit also shows us that Jesus is God's Son. The Holy Spirit always says what is true.

Commentaries on Hebrews 13:12
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 12That he might sanctify the people - That he might consecrate them to God, and make an atonement for their sins, he suffered without the gate at Jerusalem, as the sin-offering was consumed without the camp when the tabernacle abode in the wilderness. Perhaps all this was typical of the abolition of the Jewish sacrifices, and the termination of the whole Levitical system of worship. He left the city, denounced its final destruction, and abandoned it to its…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Wherefore, Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood - That there might be a conformity between his death for sin and the sacrifices which typified it. It is implied here that it was voluntary on the part of Jesus that he suffered out of the city; that is, it was so ordered by Providence that it should be so. This was secured by his being put to death as the result of a judicial trial, and not by popular tumult; see the notes on…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-15Verses 7-15 The instructions and examples of ministers, who honourably and comfortably closed their testimony, should be particularly remembered by survivors. And though their ministers were some dead, others dying, yet the great Head and High Priest of the church, the Bishop of their souls, ever lives, and is ever the same. Christ is the same in the Old Testament day. as in the gospel day, and will be so to his people for ever, equally merciful…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 11-12The author explains the sacrifice on the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16:1–28), where animals were burned outside the camp (Leviticus 16:27). Similarly, Jesus suffered and died outside Jerusalem's city gates. He was the ultimate Day of Atonement sacrifice (Hebrews 9:11–14, 24–28; 10:1–4).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 11-1211-12. For just as "the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by ... are burned without the camp," so "Jesus also that ... suffered without the gate" of ceremonial Judaism, of which His crucifixion outside the gate of Jerusalem is a type. for--reason why they who serve the tabernacle, are excluded from share in Christ; because His sacrifice is not like one of those sacrifices in which they had a share but answers to one which…Read the comment
