Context of Hebrews 13:16
14Here on earth, we who are believers do not have a city that will always be our home. But we are waiting for God's city that will come. 15So we should always praise God, because of what Jesus has done for us. We should say clearly that we trust Jesus. That is like our sacrifice which we offer to God all the time. Remember to be kind to other people. Share with them the things that you have. God is happy with sacrifices like that. 17Respect your leaders and obey them. They watch over your lives on God's behalf. God will check to see if they have done their work well. So respect them, and then they will be happy as they serve God. Do not say bad things against them, because that will never help you. 18Pray to God for us. We are sure in our minds that we have done nothing wrong. We always want to do only what is right.

Commentaries on Hebrews 13:16
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16But to do good and to communicate - These are continual sacrifices which God requires, and which will spring from a sense of God's love in Christ Jesus. Praise to God for his unspeakable gift, and acts of kindness to men for God's sake. No reliance, even on the infinitely meritorious sacrifice of Christ, can be acceptable in the sight of God if a man have not love and charity towards his neighbor. Praise, prayer, and thanksgiving to God, with works of…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 16But to do good, and to communicate, forget not - To communicate or impart to others; that is, to share with them what we have. The Greek word means having in common with others. The meaning is, that they were to show liberality to those who were in want, and were to take special pains not to forget this duty. We are prone to think constantly of our own interests, and there is great danger of forgetting the duty which we owe to the poor and the needy. On…Read the comment

Christians must not think themselves too wise, too good, or too great, to learn. The…Read the comment
