Context of Hebrews 13:16
14For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the one that is to come. 15Through Yeshua then, let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips giving thanks to His name. Do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. 17Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as ones who must give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no benefit to you. 18Pray for us, for we are convinced that we have a clear conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things.

Commentaries on Hebrews 13:16
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16But to do good and to communicate - These are continual sacrifices which God requires, and which will spring from a sense of God's love in Christ Jesus. Praise to God for his unspeakable gift, and acts of kindness to men for God's sake. No reliance, even on the infinitely meritorious sacrifice of Christ, can be acceptable in the sight of God if a man have not love and charity towards his neighbor. Praise, prayer, and thanksgiving to God, with works of…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 16But to do good, and to communicate, forget not - To communicate or impart to others; that is, to share with them what we have. The Greek word means having in common with others. The meaning is, that they were to show liberality to those who were in want, and were to take special pains not to forget this duty. We are prone to think constantly of our own interests, and there is great danger of forgetting the duty which we owe to the poor and the needy. On…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 16-21Verses 16-21 We must, according to our power, give to the necessities of the souls and bodies of men: God will accept these offerings with pleasure, and will accept and bless the offerers through Christ. The apostle then states what is their duty to living ministers; to obey and submit to them, so far as is agreeable to the mind and will of God, made known in his word. Christians must not think themselves too wise, too good, or too great, to learn. The…Read the comment
