Context of Hebrews 13:14
12In the same way, Jesus also died outside the city. He died as a sacrifice on our behalf. His blood has made his people clean from their sins. 13Jesus died like that in a place where people insulted him. So we must go out to that place too. We must be ready for people to insult us, as they insulted him. Here on earth, we who are believers do not have a city that will always be our home. But we are waiting for God's city that will come. 15So we should always praise God, because of what Jesus has done for us. We should say clearly that we trust Jesus. That is like our sacrifice which we offer to God all the time. 16Remember to be kind to other people. Share with them the things that you have. God is happy with sacrifices like that.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14For here have we no continuing city - Here is an elegant and forcible allusion to the approaching destruction of Jerusalem. The Jerusalem that was below was about to be burnt with fire, and erased to the ground; the Jerusalem that was from above was that alone which could be considered to be , permanent. The words seem to say: "Arise, and depart; for this is not your rest: it is polluted:" About seven or eight years after this, Jerusalem was wholly…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14For here we have no continuing city - We do not regard this as our final home, or our fixed abode, and we should be willing to bear reproaches during the little time that we are to remain here; compare notes, Hebrews 11:10, Hebrews 11:13-14. If, therefore, in consequence of our professed attachment to the Saviour, we should be driven away from our habitations, and compelled to wander, we should be willing to submit to it, for our permanent home is not…Read the comment

Christ is the same in the Old Testament day. as in the gospel day, and will be so to his people for ever, equally merciful…Read the comment
