Context of 1 Corinthians 10:6
4All of them drank the same spiritual drink. They drank water from the spiritual rock that went with them. Christ was that rock. 5They all received the same help from God, but most of them did not please God. God caused most of them to die in the wilderness. We must learn from those things that happened to our ancestors. We must not want to do very bad things, like they did. 7Do not worship idols, as some of them did. The Bible says: ‘The people sat down to eat and to drink. After that, they got up from their meal and they danced.’ 8Nor must we ever have sex in wrong ways. Some of our ancestors did that, and 23,000 of them died in one day as a result.

- Jude 1:7Also, remember what happened to the cities called Sodom and Gomorrah, and the other cities that were near them. Like those bad angels, the people who lived in those places were also doing evil things. They were having sex with people who were not their husbands or their wives. They liked to have sex in other ways that are not right. God destroyed their cities. He has punished them with fire that never stops burning. That is an example of what will happen to wicked people like them.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6These things were our examples - The punishments which God inflicted on them furnish us with evidences of what God will inflict upon us, if we sin after the similitude of those transgressors. We should not lust after evil things - It is most evident that the apostle refers here to the history in Numbers 11:4, etc.: And the mixed multitude fell a lusting, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? Into the same spirit the Corinthians had most evidently…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6Now these things - The judgments inflicted on them by God for their sins. Were our examples - Greek: “types” ( ́ tupoi). Margin, “figures.” They were not designed to be types of us, but they are to be held up as furnishing an admonition to us, or a warning that we do not sin in the same way. The same God directs our affairs that ordered theirs; and if we sin as they did, we also must expect to be punished, and excluded from the favor of God, and from…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-14Verses 6-14 Carnal desires gain strength by indulgence, therefore should be checked in their first rise. Let us fear the sins of Israel, if we would shun their plagues. And it is but just to fear, that such as tempt Christ, will be left by him in the power of the old serpent. Murmuring against God's disposals and commands, greatly provokes him. Nothing in Scripture is written in vain; and it is our wisdom and duty to learn from it. Others have fallen, and…Read the comment
