Context of Luke 5:27
25Immediately he got up before them, picked up what he had been lying on, and went home glorifying God. 26Then everyone was astounded, and they were giving glory to God. And they were filled with awe and said, “We have seen incredible things today.” After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, “Follow me.” 28So, leaving everything behind, he got up and began to follow him. 29Then Levi hosted a grand banquet for him at his house. Now there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining at the table with them.

Luke 5:29 Made him a great feast - This circumstance “Matthew,” or “Levi” as he is here called, has omitted in his own gospel. This fact shows how little inclined the evangelists are to say anything in favor of themselves or to praise themselves. True religion does not seek to commend itself, or to speak of what it does, even when it is done for the Son of God. It seeks retirement; it delights rather in the…Read the comment
