Context of Hebrews 13:11
9Be not carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied in them. 10We have an altar, of which they have no right to eat who serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. 12Therefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside the gate. 13Let us go forth therefore to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11For the bodies of those beasts - Though in making covenants, and in some victims offered according to the law, the flesh of the sacrifice was eaten by the offerers; yet the flesh of the sin-offering might no man eat: when the blood was sprinkled before the holy place to make an atonement for their souls, the skins, flesh, entrails, etc., were carried without the camp, and there entirely consumed by fire; and this entire consumption, according to the…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11For the bodies of those beasts - The word rendered here “for” - ̀ gar- would be here more properly rendered “moreover.” Stuart. The apostle is not urging a reason for what he had said in the previous verse, but is suggesting a new consideration to excite those whom he addressed to fidelity and perseverance. In the previous verse the consideration was, that Christians are permitted to partake of the benefits of a higher and more perfect sacrifice than…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-15Verses 7-15 The instructions and examples of ministers, who honourably and comfortably closed their testimony, should be particularly remembered by survivors. Christ is the same in the Old Testament day. as in the gospel day, and will be so to his people for ever, equally merciful…Read the comment
