Ecclesiastes 3
Revised Version 1895
1To everyH3605 thingH3605 there is a seasonH6256, and a time to everyH3605 purposeH2656 underH8478 the heavenH8064: 2a time to be bornH3205, and a time to dieH4191; a time to plantH5193, and a time to pluck up that which is plantedH5193; 3a time to killH2026, and a time to healH7495; a time to breakH6555 downH6555, and a time to buildH1129 upH1129; 4a time to weepH1058, and a time to laughH7832; a time to mournH5594, and a time to danceH7540; 5a time to castH7993 awayH7993 stonesH68, and a time to gatherH3664 stonesH68 together; a time to embraceH2263, and a time to refrain from embracingH2263; 6a time to seekH1245, and a time to lose; a time to keepH8104, and a time to castH7993 awayH7993; 7a time to rendH7167, and a time to sewH8609; a time to keepH2814 silence, and a time to speakH1696; 8a time to loveH157, and a time to hateH8130; a time for warH4421, and a time for peaceH7965. 9WhatH4100 profitH3504 hath he that worketh in that whereinH834 he laboureth? 10I have seenH7200 the travail whichH834 GodH430 hath givenH5414 to the sonsH1121 of menH120 to be exercised therewith. 11He hath madeH6213 everyH3605 thingH3605 beautifulH3303 in itsH3605 time: also he hath setH5414 the world in their heartH3820, yet soH6213 that manH120 cannotH3808 findH4672 outH3605 the workH4639 that GodH430 hath doneH6213 from the beginningH7218 evenH1571 to the endH5490. 12I knowH3045 that there is nothingH369 betterH2896 for them, thanH2896 to rejoiceH8055, and to doH6213 goodH2896 soH6213 long as they liveH2416. 13And also that everyH3605 manH120 should eatH398 and drinkH8354, and enjoyH7200 goodH2896 in allH3605 his labour, is the giftH4991 of GodH430. 14I knowH3045 that, whatsoeverH3605 GodH430 doeth, it shall be for everH5769: nothingH369 canH834 be put to it, norH369 anyH3605 thingH3588 takenH1639 from it: and GodH430 hath doneH6213 it, that menH3605 should fearH3372 beforeH6440 him. 15That whichH834 is hath been alreadyH3528; and that whichH834 is to be hath alreadyH3528 been: and GodH430 seeketh againH1961 that whichH834 is passedH1961 away. 16And moreoverH5750 I sawH7200 underH8478 the sunH8121, in the placeH4725 of judgmentH4941, that wickednessH7562 was there; and in the placeH4725 of righteousnessH6664, that wickednessH7562 was there. 17I saidH559 in mine heartH3820, GodH430 shall judgeH8199 the righteousH6662 and the wickedH7563: for there is a time there for everyH3605 purposeH3820 and for everyH3605 workH4639. 18I saidH559 in mine heartH3820, It is becauseH5921 of the sonsH1121 of menH120, that GodH430 may prove them, and that they may seeH7200 that they themselvesH1992 are but as beastsH929. 19For that whichH2088 befalleth the sonsH1121 of menH120 befalleth beastsH929; evenH3588 one thingH2088 befalleth them: as the one dieth, soH3651 dieth the otherH259; yeaH3588, they have allH3605 one breathH7307; and manH120 hath noH369 preeminence aboveH4480 the beastsH929: for allH3605 is vanityH1892. 20AllH3605 goH1980 unto one placeH4725; allH3605 are of the dustH6083, and allH3605 turnH7725 to dustH6083 againH7725. 21Who knoweth the spiritH7307 of manH120 whether it goeth upwardH4605, and the spiritH7307 of the beastH929 whether it goeth downwardH4295 to the earthH776? 22Wherefore I sawH7200 that there is nothingH369 betterH2896, thanH2896 that a manH120 should rejoiceH8055 in his worksH4639; for that is his portionH2506: for who shall bringH935 him backH310 to seeH7200 whatH4100 shall be afterH310 him?
