Context of Matthew 12:28
26And if Satan is casting out Satan, he is divided and fighting against himself. His own kingdom will not survive. 27And if I am empowered by Satan, what about your own exorcists? They cast out demons, too, so they will condemn you for what you have said. But if I am casting out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you. 29For who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house. 30“Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 28But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God - Perhaps the Spirit of God is here mentioned by way of opposition to the magical incantations of the Jews; for it is well known that by fumigations and magical washings, they professed to cast out devils. See a case mentioned by Schoettgen on this verse. Then the kingdom of God - For the destruction of the kingdom of Satan plainly implies the setting up of the kingdom of God. Is come unto you - Is come…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-30Verses 22-30 A soul under Satan's power, and led captive by him, is blind in the things of God, and dumb at the throne of grace; sees nothing, and says nothing to the purpose. Satan blinds the eyes by unbelief, and seals up the lips from prayer. The more people magnified Christ, the more desirous the Pharisees were to vilify him. It was evident that if Satan aided Jesus in casting out devils, the kingdom of hell was divided against itself; how then could…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2828. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God--In Luke (Lu 11:20) it is, "with (or 'by') the finger of God." This latter expression is just a figurative way of representing the power of God, while the former tells us the living Personal Agent was made use of by the Lord Jesus in every exercise of that power. then--"no doubt" (Lu 11:20). the kingdom of God is come unto you--rather "upon you," as the same expression is rendered in Luke (Lu 11:20):--that…Read the comment
