Context of Mark 11:10
8Many in the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others spread leafy branches they had cut in the fields. 9Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting, “Praise God! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessings on the coming Kingdom of our ancestor David! Praise God in highest heaven!” 11So Jesus came to Jerusalem and went into the Temple. After looking around carefully at everything, he left because it was late in the afternoon. Then he returned to Bethany with the twelve disciples. 12The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9-10Hosanna: Hosanna comes from a Hebrew expression that means “save, please” or “please save us.” By the first century AD, Hosanna was not used as a literal cry for rescue from enemies. Instead, it had become an expression of joy and celebration (like the phrase used today, "Praise the Lord!"). For the people, it was an enthusiastic welcome for a famous traveler, "the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee" (Luke 19:38–40; Matthew 21:11). The miracle of raising…Read the comment
