Context of Mark 11:3
1As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. 2“Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will return it soon.’” 4The two disciples left and found the colt standing in the street, tied outside the front door. 5As they were untying it, some bystanders demanded, “What are you doing, untying that colt?”

Commentaries on Mark 11:3
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 3And straightway he will send him hither - From the text, I think it is exceedingly plain, that our Lord did not beg, but borrow, the colt; therefore the latter clause of this verse should be understood as the promise of returning him. Is not the proper translation the following? And if any one say to you, Why do ye this? Say, the Lord hath need of him, and will speedily send him back hither - ̔ . Some eminent critics take the same view of the passage.Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 3The Lord needs it and will return it shortly: Earlier in Mark’s Gospel, the title Lord is used for Jesus (1:3; 2:28; 5:19; see also 12:36–37; 13:35). Because of this, Mark's audience would understand the statement as referring to the Lord Jesus Christ, who needed the colt (see also Romans 10:9; Philippians 2:11).Read the comment
