Context of Mark 1:15
13and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him. 14After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” 16As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

Commentaries on Mark 1:15
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 15The time is fulfilled - That is, the time appointed for sending the Messiah; and particularly the time specified by Daniel, Daniel 9:24-27. Here are four points worthy of deep attention, in the preaching of the Son of God. Every thing that is done is according to a plan laid by the Divine wisdom, and never performed till the time appointed was filled up. That the kingdom and reign of sin are to be destroyed, and the kingdom of grace and heaven established…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15The time is fulfilled - That is, the time for the appearance of the Messiah, the time so long foretold, has come. “The kingdom of God is at hand.” See the notes at Matthew 3:2. Repent ye - Exercise sorrow for sins, and turn from them. And believe the gospel - Literally, trust in the gospel, or believe the good tidings - to wit, respecting salvation. See the notes at Matthew 4:17.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-22Verses 14-22 Jesus began to preach in Galilee, after that John was put in prison. If some be laid aside, others shall be raised up, to carry on the same work. Observe the great truths Christ preached. By repentance we give glory to our Creator whom we have offended; by faith we give glory to our Redeemer who came to save us from our sins. Christ has joined these two together, and let no man think to put them asunder. Christ puts honour upon those who…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 15The preaching of Jesus is summarized in his announcement that the kingdom of God had come. He called people to repent (turn away from sin and turn to God) and believe the good news about the Messiah (1:1). The kingdom of God is not associated with a place or land. It began with Jesus himself and continues through his followers. Because the kingdom of God has come, people must repent and have faith in God's good news. In the time of Jesus, this good news…Read the comment
