Context of Acts 5:16
14More and more believers in the Lord were added to their number, crowds of both men and women. 15Thus they even carried the sick out into the streets, and put them on cots and pallets, so that when Peter came by at least his shadow would fall on some of them. A crowd of people from the towns around Jerusalem also came together, bringing the sick and those troubled by unclean spirits. They were all being healed. 17Now the high priest rose up, and all those with him (that is, the religious party of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy. 18They laid hands on the apostles and put them in a public jail.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 16Sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits - Here it is evident that sick people are distinguished from those who were vexed with unclean spirits; and therefore they were not one and the same thing. The same distinction is made Matthew 4:24; Matthew 10:1; Mark 1:32, Mark 1:34; Mark 16:17, Mark 16:18; and Luke 4:40, Luke 4:41; Luke 7:21.Read the comment

Vexed - Troubled, afflicted, or tormented. Unclean spirits - Possessed with devils; called “unclean” because they prompted to sin and impurity of life. See the notes on Matthew 4:23-24. And they were healed - Of these persons it is expressly affirmed that they were healed. Of those who were so laid as that the shadow of Peter…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-16Verses 12-16 The separation of hypocrites by distinguishing judgments, should make the sincere cleave closer to each other and to the gospel ministry. Whatever tends to the purity and reputation of the church, promotes its enlargement; but that power alone which wrought such miracles by the apostles, can rescue sinners from the power of sin and Satan, and add believers to His worshippers. Christ will work by all his faithful servants; and every one who…Read the comment
