Context of Acts 28:23
21They replied, “We have received no letters from Judea about you, nor have any of the brothers come from there and reported or said anything bad about you. 22But we would like to hear from you what you think, for regarding this sect we know that people everywhere speak against it.” They set a day to meet with him, and they came to him where he was staying in even greater numbers. From morning until evening he explained things to them, testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets. 24Some were convinced by what he said, but others refused to believe. 25So they began to leave, unable to agree among themselves, after Paul made one last statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 23To whom he expounded - the kingdom of God - To whom he showed that the reign of the Messiah was to be a spiritual reign; and that Jesus, whom the Jewish rulers had lately crucified, was the true Messiah, who should rule in this spiritual kingdom. These two points were probably those on which he expatiated from morning to evening, proving both out of the law and out of the prophets. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 23-31Verses 23-31 Paul persuaded the Jews concerning Jesus. Paul parted with them, observing that the Holy Ghost had well described their state. Let all that hear the gospel, and do not heed it, tremble at their doom; for who shall heal them, if God does not? The Jews had afterwards much…Read the comment
