1Now the daysיְמֵֽי־ye.mei-H3117of Davidדָוִ֖דda.VidH1732drew nighוַיִּקְרְב֥וּvai.yik.re.VuH7126that he should dieלָמ֑וּתla.MutH4191;and he chargedוַיְצַ֛וvay.TzavH6680Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֥הshe.lo.MohH8010his sonבְנ֖וֹve.NoH1121,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

2I goהֹלֵ֔ךְho.LekhH1980the wayבְּדֶ֖רֶךְbe.De.rekhH1870of all the earthהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776:be thou strongוְחָזַקְתָּ֖ve.cha.zak.TaH2388therefore, and shew thyself a manלְאִֽישׁ׃le.'IshH376;

4That the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068may continueיָקִ֨יםya.KimH6965his wordדְּבָר֗וֹde.va.RoH1697which he spakeדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696concerning me, sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559,If thy childrenבָנֶ֜יךָva.Nei.khaH1121take heedיִשְׁמְר֨וּyish.me.RuH8104to their wayדַּרְכָּ֗םdar.KamH1870,to walkH3212beforeלְפָנַי֙le.fa.NaiH6440me in truthבֶּאֱמֶ֔תbe.'e.MetH571with all their heartלְבָבָ֖םle.va.VamH3824and with all their soulנַפְשָׁ֑םnaf.ShamH5315,there shall not failיִכָּרֵ֤תyi.ka.RetH3772thee (saidלֵאמֹ֕רle.MorH559he) a manאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376on the throneכִּסֵּ֥אki.Se'H3678of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

5Moreover thou knowestיָדַ֡עְתָּya.Da'.taH3045also what Joabיוֹאָ֣בyo.'AvH3097the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zeruiahצְרוּיָ֗הtze.ru.YahH6870didעָ֨שָׂה'A.sahH6213to me, andwhat he didעָשָׂ֣ה'a.SahH6213to the twoלִשְׁנֵֽי־lish.nei-H8147captainsשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of the hostsצִבְא֣וֹתtziv.'otH6635of Israelיִ֠שְׂרָאֵלYis.ra.'elH3478,unto Abnerלְאַבְנֵ֨רle.'av.NerH74the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nerנֵ֜רnerH5369,and unto Amasaוְלַעֲמָשָׂ֤אve.la.'a.ma.Sa'H6021the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Jetherיֶ֙תֶר֙ye.terH3500,whom he slewוַיַּ֣הַרְגֵ֔םvai.Ya.har.GemH2026,and shedוַיָּ֥שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760the bloodדְּמֵֽי־de.mei-H1818of warמִלְחָמָ֖הmil.cha.MahH4421in peaceבְּשָׁלֹ֑םbe.sha.LomH7965,and putוַיִּתֵּ֞ןvai.yi.TenH5414the bloodדְּמֵ֣יde.MeiH1818of warמִלְחָמָ֗הmil.cha.MahH4421upon his girdleבַּחֲגֹֽרָתוֹ֙ba.cha.go.ra.ToH2290that wasabout his loinsבְּמָתְנָ֔יוbe.ma.te.NavH4975,and in his shoesוּֽבְנַעֲל֖וֹu.ve.na.'a.LoH5275that wereon his feetבְּרַגְלָֽיו׃be.rag.LavH7272.

6Doוְעָשִׂ֖יתָve.'a.Si.taH6213therefore according to thy wisdomכְּחָכְמָתֶ֑ךָke.cha.khe.ma.Te.khaH2451,and let not his hoar headשֵׂיבָת֛וֹsei.va.ToH7872go downתוֹרֵ֧דto.RedH3381to the graveשְׁאֹֽל׃ סshe.'OlH7585in peaceבְּשָׁלֹ֖םbe.sha.LomH7965.

7But shewתַּֽעֲשֶׂה־ta.'a.seh-H6213kindnessחֶ֔סֶדChe.sedH2617unto the sonsוְלִבְנֵ֨יve.liv.NeiH1121of Barzillaiבַרְזִלַּ֤יvar.zi.LaiH1271the Gileaditeהַגִּלְעָדִי֙ha.gil.'a.DiH1569,and let them be of those that eatבְּאֹכְלֵ֣יbe.'o.khe.LeiH398at thy tableשֻׁלְחָנֶ֑ךָshul.cha.Ne.khaH7979:for so they cameקָרְב֣וּka.re.VuH7126to me when I fledבְּבָרְחִ֕יbe.va.re.ChiH1272becauseמִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH6440of Absalomאַבְשָׁל֥וֹם'av.sha.LomH53thy brotherאָחִֽיךָ׃'a.Chi.khaH251.

8And, behold, thou hastwith thee Shimeiשִֽׁמְעִ֨יshim.'IH8096the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Geraגֵּרָ֥אge.Ra'H1617,a BenjamiteH1145of Bahurimמִבַּחֻרִים֒mi.ba.chu.RimH980,which cursedקִֽלְלַ֙נִי֙ki.La.niH7043me with a grievousנִמְרֶ֔צֶתnim.Re.tzetH4834curseקְלָלָ֣הke.la.LahH7045in the dayבְּי֖וֹםbe.YomH3117when I wentH3212to Mahanaimמַחֲנָ֑יִםma.cha.Na.yimH4266:but he came downיָרַ֤דya.RadH3381to meetH7125me at Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּ֔ןhai.yar.DenH3383,and I swareוָאֶשָּׁ֨בַֽעva.'e.Sha.va'H7650to him by the Lordבַֽיהוָה֙ba.Yah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559,I will not put thee to deathאֲמִֽיתְךָ֖'a.mi.te.KhaH4191with the swordבֶּחָֽרֶב׃be.Cha.revH2719.

9Now therefore hold him not guiltlessתְּנַקֵּ֔הוּte.na.Ke.huH5352: for thou arta wiseחָכָ֖םcha.KhamH2450manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376,and knowestוְיָֽדַעְתָּ֙ve.ya.da'.TaH3045what thou oughtest to doתַּֽעֲשֶׂה־ta.'a.seh-H6213unto him; but his hoar headשֵׂיבָת֛וֹsei.va.ToH7872bring thou downוְהוֹרַדְתָּ֧ve.ho.rad.TaH3381to the graveשְׁאֽוֹל׃she.'olH7585with bloodבְּדָ֖םbe.DamH1818.
