Context of Romans 11:14
12The fall of the Jewish people made the world spiritually rich. Their failure made people who are not Jewish spiritually rich. So the inclusion of Jewish people will make the world even richer. 13Now, I speak to you who are not Jewish. As long as I am an apostle sent to people who are not Jewish, I bring honor to my ministry. Perhaps I can make my people jealous and save some of them. 15If Israel’s rejection means that the world has been brought back to God, what does Israel’s acceptance mean? It means that Israel has come back to life. 16If the first handful of dough is holy, the whole batch of dough is holy. If the root is holy, the branches are holy.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14Might save some of them - And yet all these were among the reprobate, or rejected; however, the apostle supposed that none of them were irrecoverably shut out from the Divine favor; and that some of them, by his preaching, might be disposed to receive salvation by Christ Jesus.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14If by any means - If even by stating unpleasant truths, if by bringing out all the counsel of God, even what threatens their destruction, I may arrest their attention, and save them. I may provoke to emulation - I may awaken up to zeal, or to an earnest desire to obtain the like blessings. This was in accordance with the prediction of Moses, that the calling in of the Gentiles would excite their attention, and provoke them to deep feeling; Note, Romans…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-21Verses 11-21 The gospel is the greatest riches of every place where it is. As therefore the righteous rejection of the unbelieving Jews, was the occasion of so large a multitude of the Gentiles being reconciled to God, and at peace with him; the future receiving of the Jews into the church would be such a change, as would resemble a general resurrection of the dead in sin to a life of righteousness. Abraham was as the root of the church. The Jews…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-14You Gentiles: Paul speaks directly to the gentile believers in Rome. His purpose is to correct them for thinking too highly of themselves, especially when comparing themselves to their Jewish brothers and sisters (11:20). Paul reminds them that they enjoy salvation only because of God’s kindness, not because of their own merit (11:22). He also explains that God’s goal is not to reject the Jews. Instead, God intends to lead them to repentance and renewed…Read the comment
