Context of Mark 11:10
8Many spread their coats on the road. Others cut leafy branches in the fields and spread them on the road. 9Those who went ahead and those who followed him were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is our ancestor David’s kingdom that is coming! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” 11Jesus came into Jerusalem and went into the temple courtyard, where he looked around at everything. Since it was already late, he went out with the twelve apostles to Bethany. 12The next day, when they left Bethany, Jesus became hungry.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9-10Hosanna: Hosanna comes from a Hebrew expression that means “save, please” or “please save us.” By the first century AD, Hosanna was not used as a literal cry for rescue from enemies. Instead, it had become an expression of joy and celebration (like the phrase used today, "Praise the Lord!"). For the people, it was an enthusiastic welcome for a famous traveler, "the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee" (Luke 19:38–40; Matthew 21:11). The miracle of raising…Read the comment
