Context of Mark 11:10
8Many in the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut from the fields. 9The ones who went ahead and those who followed were shouting: “Hosanna!” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest!” 11Then Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, He went out to Bethany with the Twelve. 12The next day, when they had left Bethany, Jesus was hungry.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9-10Hosanna: Hosanna comes from a Hebrew expression that means “save, please” or “please save us.” By the first century AD, Hosanna was not used as a literal cry for rescue from enemies. Instead, it had become an expression of joy and celebration (like the phrase used today, "Praise the Lord!"). For the people, it was an enthusiastic welcome for a famous traveler, "the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee" (Luke 19:38–40; Matthew 21:11). The miracle of raising…Read the comment
