Context of 2 Thessalonians 1:3
1From Paul, Silas, and Timothy. To the church at Thessalonica united with God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2Good will and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are yours! We always have to thank God for you, brothers and sisters. It’s right to do this because your faith is showing remarkable growth and your love for each other is increasing. 4That’s why we brag in God’s churches about your endurance and faith in all the persecutions and suffering you are experiencing. 5Your suffering proves that God’s judgment is right and that you are considered worthy of his kingdom.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 3Your faith groweth exceedingly - The word ̔ signifies to grow luxuriantly, as a good and healthy tree planted in a good soil; and if a fruit tree, bearing an abundance of fruit to compensate the labor of the husbandman. Faith is one of the seeds of the kingdom; this the apostle had sowed and watered, and God gave an abundant increase. Their faith was multiplied, and their love abounded; and this was not the case with some distinguished characters only, it…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 3We are bound to thank God always for you; - See the notes on 1 Thessalonians 1:2. “As it is meet.” Since it is fit or proper. “Because that your faith groweth exceedingly.” It would seem probable from this that Paul had heard from them since his First Epistle was written. Thus, Paul and his fellow missionaries practice what they preach (1Th 5:18). In 1Th 1:3, their thanksgiving was for the Thessalonians' faith, love, and patience"; here, for their exceeding growth in…Read the comment
