Context of Matthew 4:11
9The Devil said, ‘I will give you power over all these countries. Just go down on your knees in front of me. Worship me and I will give it all to you.’ 10Jesus then said to him, ‘Satan, go away from me! The Bible says, “Only worship your Lord God. He is the only one that you should obey”.’ Then the Devil left Jesus alone. Immediately angels came to Jesus and they took care of him. 12Then Jesus heard that Herod had put John the Baptist in prison. So Jesus returned to Galilee. 13But he did not stay in Nazareth. He went to live in Capernaum, which is a town on the shore of Lake Galilee. It was in the part of Israel called Zebulun and Naphtali.

Commentaries on Matthew 4:11
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11Behold, angels came and ministered unto him - That is, brought that food which was necessary to support nature. The name given to Satan in the third verse is very emphatic, , the tempter, or trier, from , to pierce through. To this import of the name there seems to be an allusion, Ephesians 6:16; : The fiery Darts of the wicked one. This is the precise idea of the word in Deuteronomy 8:2. To humble thee, and to prove thee, To Know What Was In Thy Heart…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11Then the devil leaveth him - He left him for a time, Luke 4:13. He intended to return again to the temptation, and, if possible, to seduce him yet from God.
