Context of Mark 1:11
9Soon after this, Jesus came from the town of Nazareth in Galilee. John baptized him in the Jordan River. 10While Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw the skies open. The Holy Spirit came down like a dove and he stayed on Jesus. A voice spoke from heaven: ‘You are my Son and I love you. You make me very happy.’ 12Immediately, the Holy Spirit sent Jesus out into the wilderness. 13Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days. During this time, Satan tried to cause him to do wrong things. There were wild animals with Jesus in the wilderness. God's angels took care of him.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-13Verses 9-13 Christ's baptism was his first public appearance, after he had long lived unknown. How much hidden worth is there, which in this world is not known! But sooner or later it shall be known, as Christ was. He took upon himself the likeness of sinful flesh; and thus, for our sakes, he sanctified himself, that we also might be sanctified, and be baptized with him, Joh 17:19. See how honourably God owned him, when he submitted to John's baptism. He…Read the comment
