Context of Luke 21:32
30When you see new leaves on a tree, you know that summer will come soon. Nobody needs to tell you that. 31In the same way, you will see these strange things happening. Then you will know that God will soon begin to rule in his kingdom. I tell you this: The people who are alive now will not all die until all these things happen. 33One day, the earth and the sky will have an end. But my words will be there for ever. 34But be careful, and watch how you live. Do not eat or drink too much. Do not waste your time like that. Do not waste time by having troubles in your mind about your life. If you do, that day will surprise you. It will come when you are not looking.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 29-38Verses 29-38 Christ tells his disciples to observe the signs of the times, which they might judge by. He charges them to look upon the ruin of the Jewish nation as near. Yet this race and family of Abraham shall not be rooted out; it shall survive as a nation, and be found as prophesied, when the Son of man shall be revealed. He cautions them against being secure and sensual. This command is given to all Christ's disciples, Take heed to yourselves, that…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 32this generation will not pass away: This saying is difficult to understand. Jesus seems to have predicted that he would come again before the first generation of his disciples died out. There are three main interpretations: the reference is to the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 when Jesus "came" in judgment against Israel; this generation refers to a future generation alive when these signs start to happen; the term generation could mean “people,”…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 3232. This generation--not "this nation," as some interpret it, which, though admissible in itself, seems very unnatural here. It is rather as in Lu 9:27.Read the comment
