Context of Luke 21:30

28When these things begin to happen, stand up. And look up, because God will then save you very soon.’ 29Then Jesus told them a story to explain this future time. He said, ‘Think about fig trees and other trees as well. When you see new leaves on a tree, you know that summer will come soon. Nobody needs to tell you that. 31In the same way, you will see these strange things happening. Then you will know that God will soon begin to rule in his kingdom. 32I tell you this: The people who are alive now will not all die until all these things happen.

Yet this race and family of Abraham shall not be rooted out; it shall survive as a nation, and be found as prophesied, when the Son of man shall be revealed. He cautions them against being secure and sensual. This command is given to all Christ's disciples, Take heed to yourselves, that…Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-38When Jesus predicted the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, his disciples asked when it would happen and what signs would accompany it (21:6,7). Jesus responded by describing the events surrounding the destruction of the temple and the return of the Son of Man (21:8–36). This sermon is known as the Olivet Discourse because the Mount of Olives was where Jesus taught (see Matthew 24:3; Mark 13:3).Read the comment
